GRC 2019

A B O U T

Girls Rock Camp is a week-long empowerment camp based on being in a rock band open to girls + trans and nonbinary youth ages 10-17. Campers will learn how to play an instrument, form a band, write an original song together, and then perform their song at a *real* concert for their family, friends, and future fans. It's so much FUN! Campers will spend the week making new friends, attending educational workshops, and collaborating with local women + trans and nonbinary folks to create music and art. We welcome campers of all skill levels, from “I’ve never even seen a bass!” to “check out this sweet drum solo.” No experience necessary!

Although music and art are major aspects of this program, Girls Rock Camp is not a music camp. The week largely focuses on feminism and inclusion. We aim to build self-confidence and foster a sense of belonging while nurturing a supportive, encouraging environment. Many of our workshops and group activities include subjects such as self-care, social justice, and community building.

This year’s theme is ROOTED & GROWING. The curriculum will be focused on building a strong foundation of values and being patient with ourselves & others while we become who we are in this ever-changing world.

The sixth annual Girls Rock Camp is July 15th-20th in Bethlehem!
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Campers will attend a total of nine educational workshops throughout the week. For example, each band will create a logo together in an art workshop Tuesday afternoon. Later, each camper will learn how to silk screen by getting to print their own band t-shirt using the design they made! (All supplies provided.) Other workshops are more discussion based than hands-on, but most are somewhere in-between. Some past topics we’ve covered include poetry, anti-bullying, gender identity, self-defense, and body positivity.

Our workshops are taught by skilled community members who we invite in for the morning or afternoon. If you’re interested in leading a workshop and have an idea related to our theme (ROOTED & GROWING), get in touch!

Suggested tuition for Girls Rock Camp is $250, which covers the whole week of camp (including nine educational workshops, visiting artists, merchandise to take home) and the showcase, a real rock concert in a fancy venue. In order to provide our campers with all the musical instruments, gear, and other tools necessary for them to play, learn, and have fun, we rely heavily on funding from tuition. We also want to make sure that any camper who wants to attend has the opportunity. Because of this, we operate on sliding scale tuition and offer scholarships for those campers who might not be able to attend otherwise. Please take into consideration your household's income, resources, and dependents when requesting scholarships. We don't require proof, but we do ask that you make an honest choice about what is best for your family.
